Like the river itself, the River Ure Project oozed slowly from the sphagnum moss of my imagination; taking time to form into a coherent idea. It started with a couple of fast scribbled watercolour drawings in the winter of 2013 and has been meandering along ever since. I live and work close to the river and this project has taken me to many places I might not otherwise have visited, including the river’s source high up on the pennine watershed above Mallerstang, and all the way to its mouth in the Humber estuary at the haunting Spurn Point. The river Ure is unusual in that for no apparent reason it changes its name to the Ouse above York (the Ouse being a tiny beck which flows into the Ure) and later still becomes part of the humber estuary so in effect has 3 names.
